A Mother's Voice

The Mother of Erskin Charles Jenkins Speaks

From the Desk of Sharon Jenkins:

Eight months ago, you witnessed me bury my son, navigate your legal maze, and confront your institutional barriers. You saw me travel hundreds of miles, encounter slammed doors, and persist despite being told to give up. What you failed to understand is that I am not just Erskin’s mother.

I am a woman of God.
I am a business owner.
I am a fighter.

My faith was forged long before this tragedy tested my resolve. While you’ve been hiding behind terrorism laws and citing homeland security denying basic answers about my son’s death, I have been meticulously documenting your every contradiction, every denial, and every attempt to silence me. Your selective transparency—showing cooperation to political coalitions while labeling a grieving family a security threat—has been witnessed and recorded.

You thought you could outlast me. You thought you could bury the truth alongside my son. You thought you could wait me out until I gave up and went away quietly.
You thought wrong.

I told you from the beginning that Erskin was raised right, that he was no criminal. I told you that this system wasn’t built for us. But what I didn’t tell you—what you failed to recognize—is that when you challenge a mother’s love and a woman’s faith, you awaken a force that does not know how to surrender. Every door you closed, every request you denied, every time you tried to make me feel small—it only strengthened my resolve. Every night I cry, every morning I get back up, its preparing me for what comes next. You underestimate the power of a mother who refuses to be silenced. You underestimated the determination of a woman who walks by faith. You underestimate me.

Today marks not an ending, but a declaration. The truth about what happened to my son will be heard—by Lubbock, by this state, by this nation. Your pattern of denying justice to families like mine will be exposed. Your misuse of federal laws to hide police accountability will be challenged at every level.

To every family who has been turned away, dismissed, or told to accept injustice: Watch what happens when we refuse to be moved.

To those who thought they could wait me out: You clearly don’t know who you’re dealing with.
The truth has a way of rising, and I will be here when it rises for Erskin Charles Jenkins.

With unwavering faith and unshakeable resolve,

Sharon Jenkins
