Deputy Identified in the Death of Erskin Jenkins: The Fight for Justice Continues

After months of silence and withheld information, the Lubbock Coalition has identified Sgt. Stephen Amador as the deputy responsible for the fatal shooting of Erskin Jenkins. Erskin was a college student, a beloved son, and a young Black man whose life was full of promise. His death has shaken our community and left a family mourning with more questions than answers.

Since the day Erskin was taken from us, officials have offered little transparency, refusing to release the name of the officer involved or provide meaningful updates. Instead of accountability, what we’ve witnessed is silence, evasion—and now, an even deeper insult: Sgt. Stephen Amador has been promoted in the time since Erskin’s death.

While a family grieves and a community rallies for truth, the officer involved in this fatal shooting has not only avoided public scrutiny, but has been elevated in rank. This is not just a failure of justice—it is a willful disregard for human life.

The Lubbock Coalition demands full accountability for the death of Erskin Jenkins. We are calling for a thorough, independent investigation, transparency from all involved agencies, and meaningful consequences for those responsible.

Erskin’s life mattered. His future mattered. And we refuse to let this story end with silence or symbolic gestures. The promotion of Sgt. Amador is a painful reminder of the systems that protect officers while ignoring victims. It is not enough to name the deputy—we must act.

We will continue to speak Erskin’s name. We will continue to demand justice, truth, and change. We invite all who believe in human dignity and accountability to stand with us.

Justice for Erskin Jenkins. Now and always.
